The History & Archaeology of the Site
This is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Galilee. There are some traces of occupation in 1300 BC and strong evidence of a town in the 2nd century before Christ. The ancient town was built along the seashore for a distance of approximately 300 meters. Jesus probably chose Capernaum as his base of operations, primarily because his first converts - Peter and Andrew lived there.
